After multiple Disney trips with toddlers, babies, grandparents, and extended family, we’ve discovered the items that are worth every single inch of suitcase space.
Some of these purchases have literally saved our family hundreds of dollars inside the parks.

Why Packing Smart Matters at Disney
Unlike many vacations, Disney is:

Disney probably sells it.
It’ll just cost three to five times more than buying it beforehand.
That’s why I recommend spending a little before your trip to save a lot once you’re there.
Essentials Everyone Should Pack

Ponchos ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of my favorite money savers. I’ve bought Disney ponchos before. Never again.
Florida is consistent in it’s afternoon showers. Don’t let the rain end your day early and don’t pay extra for protective gear inside of the parks.
This 20-pack can last a family of 4 for an entire week.
Sunscreen
Florida sun is brutal.
Make sure to pack:
- sunscreen
- face sunscreen (usually higher SPF)
- aloe
- SPF lip balm
Sunglasses
As the daughter of an optometrist and after spending years working in the eye care industry myself, this is one purchase where I simply can’t recommend taking shortcuts.
Florida sunshine is no joke. Between walking through open parks all day and spending hours watching parades and fireworks, your eyes are exposed to a tremendous amount of UV light.
Unfortunately, many inexpensive sunglasses advertise “UV protection,” but the protection often comes from a coating applied to the lenses rather than being built into the lens material itself. That coating can wear away over time, especially after repeated exposure to water, sunscreen, cleaning products, or even the occasional splash on rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
A quality pair of sunglasses with UV protection built directly into the lenses will provide lasting protection for years to come.
You won’t find an Amazon recommendation in this section. Instead, I encourage you to support your local eye doctor. They can help you choose sunglasses that provide true, long-lasting UV protection while ensuring the lenses and fit are right for your eyes.
Your vision is worth investing in, and this is one area where I believe expert advice is more valuable than an online purchase.
Britt’s Tip: Polarized lenses are wonderful for reducing glare around water and bright pavement, making long Disney days much more comfortable, but polarization and UV protection are two different things. Make sure the sunglasses you purchase offer 100% UVA and UVB protection, whether they’re polarized or not.

Who doesn’t love a his and hers Mickey/Minnie hat to go with the parks.
Backpack or Park Bag
I know… the Loungefly backpacks are 1,000% adorable. They’re themed perfectly to your favorite Disney movies and characters, and I completely understand the temptation to carry one through the parks.
But after spending full days at Disney, I have to be honest: they’re just not practical as your primary park bag.
Can you make it work? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it for a week-long Disney vacation? Probably not.
Instead, I recommend bringing either a Disney-themed kids backpack or, even better, a diaper backpack. Don’t let the name fool you. Diaper bags aren’t just for babies.
A good diaper backpack gives you:
- Multiple organized pockets
- Plenty of room for ponchos, fans, chargers, sunscreen, and souvenirs
- Easy access to everything without digging through one large compartment
- Comfortable straps for carrying all day
Even if your kids are older and out of diapers, diaper backpacks still have one feature I absolutely love: the insulated bottle pockets.
Those insulated pockets are perfect for keeping snacks, drinks, applesauce pouches, cheese sticks, or yogurt cool throughout the day. When you’re trying to avoid spending $6 every time someone gets hungry, having cool snacks ready to go is a small detail that makes a big difference.
If Disney style is important to you, there are plenty of Disney-themed backpacks that offer both function and fun. Personally, I’d rather have a backpack that makes my day easier than one that’s just cute in pictures. At the end of a 12-hour park day, your shoulders will thank you.
Passport Tip: Pack a small foldable tote or reusable shopping bag inside your backpack. If you end up buying souvenirs, you can carry those separately instead of cramming everything into your park bag for the rest of the day.
Disney Essentials That Saved Our Family Hundreds
This should be a highlighted section.

This is probably my favorite Disney packing hack.

Kids don’t care where it came from.
They just care that it makes bubbles.
And if they see another child with one…
Make sure you’re ready.

Britt’s Tip: Think about who you plan to sign the book. if they are characters in body suits or wearing gloves, think about thicker pens for them to hold easier. We go a huge difference in our princess signatures because of it.
Disney Packing Essentials for Parents with Babies and Toddlers
Diaper Backpack

Portable Sound Machine
If your baby naps well at home with white noise, don’t leave it behind.
Disney resorts are full of exciting sounds you probably don’t notice until you’re trying to get a baby to sleep. Hallway conversations, elevator dings, buses arriving, excited kids walking back from the parks after fireworks… it can all make naps and bedtime a little more challenging.
A portable sound machine creates a familiar sleep environment no matter which resort you’re staying in. We also love one to clip onto the stroller for longer naps while we’re exploring the parks.
A well-rested baby usually means happier parents and a more enjoyable Disney vacation for everyone.
Passport Tip: Charge your sound machine overnight so it’s ready for stroller naps the next day.
Stroller & Baby Carrier: Bring Both
Even if your baby doesn’t normally use a stroller at home, I highly recommend bringing one to Disney or renting one. It’s not just for transportation. It becomes your home base for naps, snacks, extra clothes, souvenirs, and everything else you’ll carry throughout the day.
A few stroller accessories make a huge difference:
- Stroller organizer to keep your essentials within easy reach (here’s a hidden mickey side pocket organizer).
- Carabiners clipped to the handle for shopping bags, water bottles, or cooling towels. Just don’t overload the stroller, or it can tip backward.
- Stroller rain cover to protect your little one during Florida’s surprise showers
Even with a stroller, I still recommend bringing a baby carrier. Disney transportation requires strollers to be folded, and crowded areas are often easier to navigate with your baby close to you.
We actually pack both a structured baby carrier for longer walks and a lightweight carrying strap for those quick “hold me” moments. Having both has made our Disney trips much easier.
Passport Tip: If your baby loves contact naps, a baby carrier can keep everyone happy while you continue enjoying the parks.
Bibs
This might seem like a small item, but disposable bibs are one of those things you’ll be glad you packed.
Between character meals, snacks in the stroller, and quick-service restaurants, babies can go through several bibs in a single day. Disposable bibs save valuable suitcase space and eliminate the need to carry around messy, food-covered bibs until you get back to your resort.
Many disposable bibs also include a crumb-catching pocket, which can save your baby’s outfit from ending up covered in mac and cheese, fruit, or Mickey waffle crumbs.
Less laundry, less mess, and one less thing to think about during your vacation.
Passport Tip: Keep two or three bibs per kid in your park bag at all times. They’re lightweight, take up almost no space, and you’ll never regret having an extra when mealtime rolls around.

Final Thoughts
The best Disney vacations aren’t always the most expensive.
They’re the ones where you’re prepared.
Packing a few smart essentials before you leave means fewer surprise purchases, happier kids, more comfortable parents, and more room in the budget for the memories that matter.
I’d much rather spend my Disney budget on a character meal, Memory Maker, or that Mickey-shaped snack we’ve been dreaming about than another overpriced poncho or bottle of water.
